Dr. Rodolfo Acena was a Filipino American doctor whose 22-pound scrapbook (1930-1943) — which he diligently maintained for over a decade—includes clippings and personal memorabilia united in elaborate, hand-drawn frames. In some instances, Acena used a typewriter to add onto newspaper articles pasted in his book: his page compositions are highly detailed and include many examples of exquisite penmanship and calligraphy. While such page embellishments were not uncommon in scrapbooks, they were rare in books kept by men, and still more unusual for the scrapbook of a physician.
