"Our Scrapbook," McVey writes, was "acquired on my misunderstanding that the scrapbook contained numerous engineering drawings. Disappointment was tempered by discovery of photographs and other material pertaining to Southern California in the late 1940s." That's an uncashed check for 15 cents, a refund for Ainsley's suspended subscription to Yank, The Army Weekly (that ran Bill Mauldin cartoons, McVey recalls from his father's own collection).
